Bio

Omar Rodriguez-Graham (b. 1978, Mexico) is a Mexican-American contemporary painter whose abstract works create immersive experiences that prioritize feeling over interpretation. Based in Mexico City, Rodriguez-Graham creates works ranging from intimate studies to monumental installations that invite viewers to engage with painting as a physical, sensory encounter.

Rodriguez-Graham's practice explores painting as an accumulation of gestures and marks, where each element contributes to a larger visual language without forming literal symbols or messages. His paintings encourage direct, bodily engagement rather than intellectual analysis, creating rich visual fields that resonate with viewers in personal ways. Recent work has expanded into interdisciplinary territory, notably with "Primer Ensayo" (2022), a dance performance work for which Rodriguez-Graham composed the original music to explore painting as a time-based experience through large-scale painted works.

His work is held in significant public and private collections including the Museo de Arte Moderno (Mexico), Colección Jumex (Mexico), Phoenix Art Museum (USA), Perez Art Museum (USA), Fidelity Investments Art Collection (USA), and the US Embassy in Mexico City. Recent institutional exhibitions include solo presentations at Museo de Arte Abstracto "Manuel Felguérez" (2023), Museo de Arte e Historia de Guanajuato (2024), and Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros (2025).

Rodriguez-Graham has received multiple grants from FONCA, including the prestigious Sistema Nacional de Creadores (2018-2020). He has participated in significant residencies including The Banff Centre (2010), Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture (2013), and the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts (2024). His work was recently commissioned by the US State Department for the new US Embassy in Mexico City.

The artist received his MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art (2005) and BA in Studio Art from Drew University (2003). He has exhibited internationally in galleries and museums across Mexico, the United States, Italy, and Spain.
